What’s the maximum file size?
File Storage & Document Formats
The maximum upload size for any single file (PDF, JPG, PNG) is 5MB. This is typically more than sufficient for standard certificate documents.
Typical File Sizes
Most Certificates are Well Under 5MB
As a guide, typical file sizes are often:
- Standard Gas Safety PDFs: Often under 300 KB.
- Multi-page EICR or EPC reports: Usually under 1-2 MB.
- Cleanly scanned multi-page documents: Typically 2-4 MB.
Files usually only exceed 5MB if they are very high-resolution photos or poorly optimised scans.
What If Your File Is Over 5MB?
Compress the File Before Uploading
If you see an error message indicating the file is too large, you'll need to reduce its size. This is easy to do:
- Use a free online PDF or image compression tool (like iLovePDF, Compress JPEG, or search for "compress PDF/JPG/PNG").
- Choose a medium or standard compression level – this usually reduces size significantly without losing readability for documents.
- Download the compressed version of your file.
- Retry uploading the smaller file to CertNudge.
