Can I shorten a validity term—for example, I choose to do annual EICRs?
Yes, you can easily set a shorter validity period than the default suggestion. CertNudge respects the expiry date you enter, even if it's more frequent than regulations typically require.
How to Set a Shorter Term
If you need to track a certificate with a shorter-than-standard renewal cycle:
Select Type & Issue Date
Choose the certificate type (e.g., EICR) and enter the correct Issue Date.
Ignore/Check Suggested Expiry
The system will auto-suggest an expiry date based on its default rules (e.g., +5 years for EICR).
Manually Set Your Shorter Expiry
Click the 'Expiry Date' field and use the calendar picker to select your desired shorter date (e.g., exactly 12 months after the Issue Date for an annual EICR). Then click Save.
CertNudge will then use your manually entered date for all dashboard statuses and email reminders.
Why Might You Shorten a Term?
Common Reasons:
- You follow a stricter internal safety policy (e.g., annual EICRs or PAT tests).
- You want to align multiple certificate dates for convenience (e.g., make Gas Safety and EICR due the same month).
- Your letting agent, insurer, or local council requires more frequent checks than the legal minimum.
- An engineer issued a certificate with a shorter-than-standard validity due to inspection findings.
Full Control
No Lower Limit Enforced
CertNudge does not enforce minimum validity periods. The default is just a suggestion. You are in full control of setting the expiry date cycle for each certificate to match your specific needs and the date shown on your document.
