What happens if my payment fails?

Billing & Payments

Don't worry, if a payment fails, Stripe automatically retries several times, and we'll notify you so you can update your details.

How Stripe Handles Failed Payments

Automatic Retry Schedule

If your scheduled subscription payment fails, Stripe (our secure payment processor) will automatically attempt to charge the card again according to their standard retry logic, typically:

  • Retry 1 Approx. 1-3 days after initial failure.
  • Retry 2 Approx. 3-5 days after the previous attempt.
  • Further Retries Stripe may attempt a few more times over ~2-3 weeks.

You'll receive an email notification after each failed attempt.

What Happens to Your Account Access?

Grace Period & Account Status

Continued Access: Your CertNudge account access and reminders continue uninterrupted during the initial retry period (typically around 7 days but contact support for confirmation).

Account Paused: If payment hasn't succeeded after the grace period and multiple retries, your account access may be paused (you won't be able to add/edit data) until a valid payment method is provided.

Data Safe: Your data remains securely stored even if your account is paused.

Updating Your Payment Method

Easy Update Process

The emails notifying you of a failed payment will include a secure link to update your payment method via the Stripe Customer Portal. You can also access this link anytime via Profile > Manage Subscription in your CertNudge account.

Instant Restoration: As soon as a successful payment is made (either through a retry or after you update your details), your account access is instantly restored if it was paused. No need to contact support.
